Features & Advantages:
This group forms a "refrigerant correspondence" with Group 3 — the suffix "F" denotes R22 compatibility, while the suffix "Z" designates environmentally friendly refrigerants such as R404A / R452A. The compressors in this group support a wide range of refrigerants including R404A, R452A, R448A, R449A, and R507A, delivering exceptional refrigerant versatility.
They are designed for High Back Pressure (HBP) medium-to-high temperature applications, with an evaporating temperature range of -15°C to +15°C. Among them, the FH4540Z / TFH4540Z serves as the flagship model of this group, featuring a displacement of 74.2 cc and a Rotalock connection design. When operating with R404A / R507A, it is rated for a maximum pressure of 35 bar, making it suitable for demanding industrial refrigeration and heat pump systems.
This group represents the ideal upgrade path for R22 retrofit and transition projects.

Q1: New unit trips and burns out 10 minutes after startup, right after evacuation and installation
-
Cause: POE oil absorbs moisture (exposed to air for >15 min), and the system was not purged with nitrogen → acid formation and motor insulation breakdown.
-
Answer: For Z-version units, brazing must be done under nitrogen blanketing, and the vacuum pump must be equipped with a check valve. Use the entire POE container immediately after opening. After a burnout, the entire system must be acid-flushed.
Q2: On an R404A system, the 4540Z at -10°C evaporation only delivers ~70% of rated capacity
-
Cause: Superheat set above 10°C (target for R404A is 5–8°C), or a frozen/restricted drier.
-
Answer: Readjust the TXV; check the drier pressure drop and replace if discolored; confirm no R22 has been mixed into the system.
Q3: Three-phase TFH45xxZ still won't start after a new capacitor was installed
-
Cause: Three-phase Z-version units have no start capacitor — they rely on direct-on-line starting. If it won't start, the issue is the winding or power supply; do not keep adding capacitors.
-
Answer: Measure three-phase insulation-to-ground and U-V-W resistance balance. Three-phase Z-version units do not require single-phase-type starting components.
